  2. Give your room a name
  3. Choose a security option (optional)
  4. Tap 'Create Room'

Free Plan: You can create 1 room

Premium: Create unlimited rooms

  5. Choose security mode and expiration time
  6. Share the QR code with your camera or link

  2. Tap "Start Premium"
  3. Confirm with Face ID / Touch ID

  1. Open the Premium screen
  2. Tap "Restore Purchases" at the bottom
  3. Your Premium status will be restored automatically
SECURITY & PRIVACY
What does 'end-to-end encrypted' mean?

End-to-end encryption means that your messages are scrambled on your device before being sent, and can only be unscrambled by the recipient's device. No one else - including NOOK, internet providers, or hackers - can read your messages.

Why do invitations expire?

For security! All invitations have a time limit:

  • Open mode: 5-60 minutes (default: 10 min)
  • Password/Q&A mode: 10 min - 24 hours (default: 10 min)
  • Live Challenge: 5-60 minutes (default: 10 min)

This prevents old screenshots from being used indefinitely. Room owners can always generate a new invite code.

Can I change the room password?

Yes! Room owners can change passwords or security questions:

  1. Open Room Settings
  2. Go to 'SECURITY' section
  3. Tap 'Security Settings'
  4. Enter current secret
  5. Enter new secret

Note: This will invalidate all existing invitations and rotate the encryption key for extra security.

Are my messages stored on servers?

Yes, encrypted messages are stored on Apple's iCloud servers, but they remain encrypted. Think of it like a locked safe: the safe is stored at a facility, but only you have the key.

What happens if I lose my device?

Your messages are safely stored in iCloud and tied to your Apple ID. When you install NOOK on a new device and sign in with the same Apple ID, you'll automatically get access to all your rooms and messages.

Can new members see old messages?

No. For privacy, new members can only see messages sent after they joined the room. This is especially true after a key rotation. Existing members can see all messages.

ROOM MANAGEMENT
What's the difference between Owner and Member?

Owner: The person who created the room. Can invite people, kick members, delete the room, rotate encryption keys, and change security settings.

Member: Someone who joined the room. Can send messages and leave the room anytime.

What is Live Challenge? (Premium)

Live Challenge is an interactive security layer where room owners verify each join request in real-time.

How it works:

  1. Someone scans your invite code
  2. You get a notification
  3. You can ask them a custom question
  4. They answer
  5. You approve or reject their request

Perfect for private rooms where you want to verify each person manually. Live Challenge invites also expire after 5-60 minutes to prevent spam requests.

Note: Live Challenge is a Premium feature.

What is Key Rotation?

Key Rotation generates a new encryption key for your room. This is a security feature for room owners.

When to use:

  • After kicking a member
  • If you suspect unauthorized access
  • After changing room password/question

What happens:

  • A new encryption key is created
  • All members automatically receive it
  • Kicked members can no longer decrypt new messages
  • Old messages remain readable for existing members
How do I leave a room?
  1. Open the room
  2. Tap the settings icon (gear)
  3. Scroll down and tap 'Leave Room'
  4. Confirm your choice
How do I delete a room permanently?

Only room owners can delete rooms:

  1. Open the room
  2. Tap settings (gear)
  3. Scroll to 'DANGER ZONE' section
  4. Tap 'Delete Room for All'
  5. Confirm - this cannot be undone!

All messages, attachments, and member data will be permanently deleted from iCloud.
